I LOVE bicycling because C.A.T. and I make 100s of people smile every day = we bicycle very very VERY slowly through Ville de Luxembourg‘s UNESCO Old City . . . while inspiring music from Madeline Peyroux and Yo-Yo Ma softly plays from our portable bluetooth speakers. Each smile (and occasional hug) is proof that Active Mobility = Decency + Conviviality + Joy + Health + Connectedness.

Context: 100 Reasons to Walk, Cycle, and Reclaim the Joy of Movement = Reflections from today’s Bonn Dialogue . . .
This morning, C.A.T. (Climate Action Tiger) and I had the privilege of being inspired by a global panel of experienced leaders . . . each speaking Truths that need no translation: walking and bicycling are the most Decent forms of movement we have. They are the heartbeats of cities, rural areas and everywhere in between . . . where life thrives.
From the bicycling schools of Lithuania to the bicycle buses of Vilnius, from Utrecht’s green lanes to Bonn’s bike-friendly streets, we heard how communities across Europe are reclaiming their air + their streets + their future.
THANK YOU Lord Mayor of Bonn Katja Dörner + Lithuania Vice-Minister Laimutė Vaidelienė + European Cyclists’ Federation president Henk Swarttouw + Head of Office at the World Health Organization European Centre for Environment and Health Francesca Racioppi . . . and every one who spoke fundamental Truths:
the scientific + economic + common-sense evidence is clear = walking and bicycling save lives + improve mental health + cut emissions AND make cities resilient. What we need now is Fit-for-Purpose Governance = the policies + infrastructure AND systems-thinking that make active mobility the easy + safe AND joyful first (and . . . almost always always) easiest choice.
