Achieving the 17 Goals requires more than simply educating people about them, it also calls for collective action and imagination. That is why last year Youth4planet and the National Museum of Natural History launched a six-month long collaboration. The aim was to encourage the public to reimagine urban and rural spaces in ways aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals by redesigning photographs of real places, either offline using pencils, markers, and stickers, or online with the help of AI tools.
To bring this idea to life, one CreatiVelo became part of the Naturmusée’s temporary exhibition “Sous les pavés, la nature.” On the CreatiVelo’s screen, selected creations were showcased alongside tutorial and input videos developed through workshops with museum staff. After exploring the exhibition on the role of nature in our cities, visitors were encouraged to draw their dream visions of the “Glacis,” a large parking lot in the city, or “Rue Münster,” the street where the museum is located.

In addition to the static CreatiVelo inside the exhibition, a second CreatiVelo toured mainly around Luxembourg City and various events during the summer. This allowed us to engage people beyond the usual museum audience and gather a wider range of perspectives. Supporting this outreach was our wonderful intern, Jacqueline, who played a key role in engaging the public, collecting ideas, facilitating discussions, and raising awareness about the exhibition.

To honor inspiring visions, we created a website featuring a map of Luxembourg where reimagined images could be uploaded and viewed in before-and-after formats. In addition, we organized five Community Days at the Naturmusée, during which we discussed ideas with visitors and supported them in developing new visions.

As a result of the project, over 2,000 visions were collected. Most were showcased at the Naturmusée, while some were even presented at COP30 at the Luxembourg Pavilion.

While this specific project has come to an end, the idea continues to evolve. We had discussion with other NGOs to expand the concept by reimagining schoolyards, and some municipalities have expressed interest in reimagining their entire territories. Let’s see how we can continue reimagining in 2026!
